The Habitual Story
The Habitual Story has humble beginnings in 2006 when founder James Tucker became tired of the so-called “fresh” food options being anything but what they claimed to be. He enlisted culinary help in the form of Tim Benest to create good honest food and voilà, the ‘fresh food addicts’ were born.
From there it was a two-year long process of selecting only the freshest growers and producers to bring together the finest ingredients for the Habitual range. Some suppliers weren’t up to the task so were quickly voted off the island; some left running, their produce being thrown at them - we wont tell you what we did to an unsuccessful carrot supplier… We are that passionate about good food. So, after thousands of hours of preparation, we finally opened our concept store in Beaumont Street late in 2008.
At Habitual fix you won’t find processed rubbish – all of our ingredients are on display and everything is made right in front of you – we have nothing to hide! Our meats are of the highest deli grade and our produce is delivered in fresh daily. We squeeze all of our juices onsite daily and strangely enough they only contain juice (sounds simple but who else can claim this??). We bake our own farm style bread early each morning to ensure that it is the very best for our sandwiches, which is a bit of a bugger when we have hangovers, but it’s all done to maintain our fresh promise.
So there it is, The Habitual Story thus far… not quite as entertaining as the TradeMe start up “needed a heater for the flat” story or as sexy as the Stil Vodka “we broke into the 42 Below distillery to make our vodka” story but hey, we both had good working heaters and are Canadian Club drinkers anyway - we just wanted somewhere to get real food fast!
We look forward to making Addicts of you all and spreading the Habitual Love around the world.
